Unit 7

Unit 7
The practice of fixing my attention on an image or individual was challenging for me. I have experienced guided meditations with a white light before but not quite to this extent. It was more as a sense of connection to the universe and grounding to the earth. This was definitely more complicated and almost distracting from the relaxation. I understand the purpose but this technique is not for me. I will stick with what works for me. The phrase "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” is very powerful to me. I think it is very important for a health and wellness professional to understand and practice. I think it is very difficult to teach someone something that you have not experienced yourself first hand. I do feel that I have an obligation to my clients to continue to foster my development in mind-body – spiritual growth through exercises and life experiences. I can implement psychological and spiritual growth by continuing to meditate daily and by also practicing patients and awareness of other suffering and give loving kindness and compassion in return.

This is a view from Jones Mt. about 1.2 mile hike right out my back yard.

  1. I had trouble with the exercise as well but it was for different reasons. The exercises are great but I don't think that they are for everyone. I think that most of us can agree that if one does not practice what they preach then it takes away from their credibility. I did not mention this in my post but now that I think if it I feel that you ahve more passion for something if you have experienced it.

  2. Michelle,

Beautiful view, it reminds me of one of the many places I like to take myself when I feeling stressed or down in order to help me relax or find my happy place.
I share in your frustrations with this exercise, the thoughts of the beaming lights were a distraction for me as well. I did not feel connected or grounded after, which is what I would prefer after a meditation. I too will continue other meditations and most likely not return to this one.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Peace,
    Nico
